Color Readings/Color Therapy/ColourWorks

What is ColourWorks?
ColourWorks was created in South Africa by Melissie Jolly, a multi-talented woman and color therapist who created a way for people to work with color easily and practically.

What is color therapy?
Color therapy is based on thousands of years of color theory, which modern research is validating. Instinctively we associate certain meanings with certain colors. The blue "power suit" and blue police uniforms reflect the fact that blue represents authority and truth. Red relates to our primal needs for survival so stop signs are red to indicate that we could be hurt if rushed through without looking. Pink is unconditional love, compassion and nurturing.

Numerous studies have shown that color affects us mentally, emotionally and physically even if we are not consciously aware of it. Agitated prisoners calm down more quickly when placed in pink, pastel blue and lavender rooms. Yellow classrooms improve concentration. People eat faster in dining rooms that are predominately red. Blue light has become the preferred treatment in hospitals for jaundiced babies and research has shown that sitting in a blue room or under blue light for an hour a day produces a measurable decrease in blood pressure for the rest of the day for those with high blood pressure.

Color therapy has evolved to create methods to use color beneficially in our lives. People use color therapy every day without realizing it when they pick out their clothing. Similarly, the colors you choose in decorating affect you, but we can’t redecorate every day.

What sets ColourWorks apart from other methods of color therapy?
ColourWorks is easy and effective. Unlike light-based color therapy, it’s easy to take with you and use as needed through the day. It’s the only tangible color therapy system that incorporates copper, which represents the earth, the foundation of all life, and is very beneficial and grounding for those who have never quite felt comfortable in their skin.

Other color therapy products can only be touched by the person using the bottle or else the bottle is contaminated. ColourWorks has no such prohibition. ColourWorks is designed to be flexible and playful. You can use one product or several products. You can bring your bottle to a massage therapist and have them use it with or instead of massage oil. There are no rules that require you to use certain products together. Your inner knowing and the colors/products you are drawn to will always be right. That said, a consultation with a ColourWorks practitioner will give you more insight and guidance if you wish, but it is not required.

How do you use ColourWorks?
All ColourWorks products fall into one of two categories: color oils and sprays, also known as spritzers. The latter are also sometimes called "Scent by the Angels" regardless of which essence you use.

You use the color oils by shaking them and then applying a small amount to your skin. The oils are very hydrating and a little goes a long way. You can use them on your face or body – wherever you feel it should be applied, though a ColourWorks practitioner can also make specific suggestions based on your bottle. You can also add the color oils to your bath. Some people just shake a little in. Melissie likes to pour an entire bottle into one bath. It’s your choice. I’ve done both depending upon on my mood.

The spritzers are either sprayed in your hand or in a room. When you spray your palm, rub your hands together and then move your hands around you, working down your body and then back up. Lastly, bring your hands to your face and inhale the scent three times. All of the sprays – the Dragons, Angels and Elements – are used this way though please shake the Dragons first to make them sparkle. The spritzers can also be added to a bath.

What are they made of?
Each ColourWorks product is a proprietary formula that uses essential oils, flower essences, herbal and crystal tinctures and natural coloring in a base. For the sprays, the base is perfume-grade alcohol. The bottom faction of the color oils are water based; the top faction is a natural, high-grade European cosmetic oil. Each ColourWorks product is handmade and Melissie empowers/energizes each one.

What’s the difference between the Dragon, Angel and Element Essences?
The Dragon Essences remind us of who we are and our potential. They help us to reactivate abilities, strengths and qualities we have forgotten. They sparkle to remind us how special we are and for us to lighten up.

The Angel Essences bring in a higher vibration and the energy of angels and archangels, making it easier for us to connect to our guides, angels and higher selves. The Element Essences help us to recognize and change patterns in our lives. They can also be used as feng shui cures to strengthen an element and/or balance the elemental energies in our homes.

Explain the difference between the basic color oils, the Gaia oils and the chakra oils?
The color oils numbered one through 36 are the original color oils. Numbers one to 9 and 13 are the planetary bottles, whose meanings are based on their color combinations and the astrological meanings of the planets for which they are named. Gateway #36 is the newest edition to the ColourWorks line.

The Gaia oils all contain copper in one faction and represent a deep connection to the earth. They were developed for people who need extra help being grounded and those who have never quite felt comfortable in their skin, but are beneficial for anyone drawn to them.

The chakra oils address the issues of specific chakras, so that bottle C2/Sacral Chakra helps to heal shock and trauma, allowing a person reconnect to their creativity and passion for life. C10, the 4th dimension sacral chakra bottle, does the same but on a higher level. Some people believe that as humanity grows and evolves, the chakra colors are changing as well. The 3rd dimension chakra bottles represents the core meaning of each chakra and the 4th dimension chakra bottles represent what we are moving toward.

Do I need a consultation to use a ColourWorks product or can I do it on my own?
You can simply choose whichever ColourWorks bottle or product you are drawn to either based on its appearance or its description. You cannot make a mistake.

A consultation with a ColourWorks practitioner will provide a detailed look at your current situation and challenges. You will get a much more complete perspective and will be able to ask questions to clarify circumstances even more. If you choose to take home a product to help you with your challenges, your consultant can assist you in your choice and make sure you understand the differences between your options.
